Update on Conservation Meeting re 82 Turtle Cove

On Wed. Nov 28th the Southampton Town Conservation Board held a meeting to review the application of the owner of 82 Turtle Cove Drive for the construction of a new house and other site improvements. The meeting was open for public comments and a number of Southampton Shores residents were present and some addressed the Board with their concerns and comments. In a previous email we cited several statistics regarding the application which were based on a preliminary survey .  The final plan modifies the information previously provided . The new house is now 3,618 sq.ft.  rather than the almost 5000 sq.ft. reported earlier. The pool, decking and garage remain as before. The location of the improvements has been modified to afford a larger buffer between the house and closest adjoining property . The plans meet all of the Town conservation requirements as to set back, buffer areas ,lot coverage, etc. The owner, who was present and also addressed the  Board indicated her intention to keep the natural plantings in place and to also add additional plantings  to help maintain the current “ natural “ look. The owner also stated that the house is for her own personal use .
The Conservation Board has indicated that it will entertain any additional input from neighbors or others about this application for a period of 10 days from Nov 28th .  If you wish to comment on this application please mail your letter to:

Southampton Town Hall
Attn: Conservation Board116 Hampton Rd.
Southampton, NY 11968

Make sure you reference the property address of 82 Turtle Cove Dr., Southampton NY 11968.

Sandy aftermath Info

This morning LIPA came and  fixed the downed power line on Wooleys Dr. and power was restored to those homes.

At this writing, Warfield Way is still without power as well as other parts of the Shores.

Here is a link to help find gas, which is in short supply.

Type in your zip code and it will give you updated info.

Good luck, and let us hope the North Easter headed this way on Wed. does no damage.

Storm Damage Info

The power is still out for many residents, and for some that means no phone service either.

The following info was obtained by a resident who made the trip to the Hway Dept in Hampton Bays, as no one could reach them by phone.

The Town will be doing a storm pick up of debris hopefully starting some time next week.

We will need to separate the branches and sticks from leaves and other material.

Branches should be no larger than about 4 inches in diameter and cut into manageable pieces.

Wood debris other than branches needs to be cut into manageable pieces as well, not left in large sections. Leave everything on your property border where it is accessible to the cleanup crews.

They are overwhelmed right now with emergency work so the actual starting date is not fixed but most likely won’t be until next week at the earliest.

If there are any changes we will let you know.

Sunfish Regatta Results

The fourth and last sunfish regatta was concluded on Aug 19th in light winds. A total of twelve individual races were held through July and August.

The "hard luck" award was earned by Steve Pierce, whose mast broke on the third day of racing but continued on with a shortened mast and a lot of determination.

The third place trophy was presented to Greg Petrillo, who received the "most improved" award last year and in one years time morphed from a novice sailor into a skilled racer both in heavy and very light wind.

Second place trophy went to Chris Hogan. First place honors , along with his name on the perpetual trophy , was earned by Steve Pierce.  Steve was sailing the same sunfish that his father sailed forty years ago.

Obituary~ Mina Cory

Long time Southampton Shores resident Mina Cory has passed away.

Deepest sympathy to her family.

Mina Cory

Sept. 29, 1911 - July 14, 2012
Mina Margaretha Haug Cory, a former Southampton Hospital volunteer who celebrated her 100th birthday last fall, died on Saturday at the Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1911, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, a daughter of Johann Georg Haug and the former Anna Bertha Kullen. Following high school, she worked with her father, a carriage harness maker, at his shop on East 75th Street.
It was there she met the Rev. David Munroe Cory, who became her husband. The couple moved to Brooklyn. While raising children, she worked alongside her husband and did volunteer work for the Industrial Home for the Blind and for Queens Hospital.
Later, she worked in the shareholder relations department at AT&T, and then became head of the American Sugar Company’s communications center. She went on to work for the New York City Convention and Visitors Bureau until the age of 85. In 1996 she moved permanently to a house in North Sea that her family had purchased in 1941.
She spent five years volunteering at Southampton Hospital. Mrs. Cory enjoyed cooking, especially German fare, as well as the opera and travel.
She is survived by a sister, Dr. Elsie Haug of Chicago, and three children, Mina Kahofer of Wainscott, Daniel Cory of Brooklyn, and John Cory of Mystic, Conn. Nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

The links to the town offices are on the sidebar too.

A reminder to those of you who haven't been out since last summer.

Waldbaum's and other stores in town no longer provide a plastic bag due to the ban.

Bring your own bags or be charged .05 for a paper bag that will rip by the time you get to the car!  :)

New for the New Year!

Happy 2012!  Best wishes for a very happy, healthy New Year.

As most of you know, the leaves have been picked up.
The piles of brush were not, as we were previously informed by the Hway Dept.

Christmas Trees will NOT be picked up, so please do not leave them on the road.  They haven't taken away the trees in years, and the CC ends up having to pay to have them removed.

You may now access this blog by typing www.mysouthampton shores.com

I hope that will be easier for you to remember.  You will still get here using the blogspot address though.

If you have anything you want posted, email me the info.

Southampton is enjoying wonderful weather thus far, hoping it will continue.

I am including a link to the Southampton Response Center.  It lists numbers to the town departments.
I will also keep the link at the top of the sidebar.
